Since I'm no software expert I guess I will just have to live with the problem. One person found this helpful. Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. If you like to read then get Kindle and you will run out of time for anything else. If you, like me, have downloaded the Amazon store app to be able to purchase books thru the app again; remember to turn off auto updates in Google play otherwise you get sent back to the dark ages of not being able the get what you want when you want it every time it updates.
Use all the time…. I've had my Kindle 3G for a few years and love it. Having recently upgraded my cell phone - Android based, decided to try Kindle on it. On Kindle the books read like they do on the Kindle 3G and I would guess Kindle Fire, it automatically saves last page read which really is where you left off and allows you to add bookmarks to pages. Very easy to flip pages. You can see every book your library color bookcovers before downloading. You can easily view what have already downloaded. Have to say LOVE the part about displaying the bookcover whereas on my 3G it's the title only on initial screen. The Nook uploaded onto my Galaxy Player also allows you to flip pages and saves last page read but it saves the group of pages not the specific spot where you left off. What does that mean? Easy, on Kindle Adriod pages are reformated due to a smaller screen, therefore it automatically changes the total number of pages from to as an example.
The Nook on the other hand doesn't readjust the page count - what that means is when I go back to page , I have to flip through several pages all marked as until I refind where I left off. What is really taking place is that you actually have pages a, b, c, d, e, f but the letter is hidden, so you have to flip a few pages before you can begin reading or re-read what you've already read or pay attention and don't stop reading until you hit the first new page number. The Kindle Android features: Nicely syncs up to your other devices and it'll request if you'd like to update to last page read - I like that it gives you a choice. You also don't need to be connected to the web in order to read any book you've downloaded onto your device. Increasing font size is very easy. At the smallest size a line contains an average of 9 words, largest font size will contain 1 word per lind.
Plus a search feature should you need it. You can highlight words, plus word search in wikipedia or web. I haven't used the feature, but there's an option to pull docs from the cloud. Main difference between Kindle 3G and on your Android you have to turn pages more often. Plus there's no voice-to-text feature for those who want it. Though I have Nook and Kindle Android versions on device I tend to reach for Kindle more often. Please let me know if you still find this helpful. Generally speaking, this Kindle reader compares well to the competition and appears to work better than the Nook.
It's features are probably just about everything a fiction reader could want, including easily accessible options to adjust the display to your liking font size, colors, etc. For non-fiction study and learning e. studying a book on stock trading , it lacks important features detailed under Cons, further below. For all readers, the Android version of this app has two problems one with Whispersync, and the other with Archiving books; see details under cons. Cons for users who switch between devices: 1. Whispersync problem. If you switch between devices like I do for me, it's between the Motorola Xoom and my iPhone , the Whispersync feature is very important. It tells Amazon the furthest point to which you've read. If you later want to pick up your reading on another device, the Kindle app will prompt whether you want to go to the "furthest read" point within the book.
This is an invaluable feature, but it fails way too often, and without any way to fix it. Examples: i. you accidentally click a Table of Contents link that takes you far into the book or to its end, as I have done by accident, ii. you click a superscript that takes you to the index, and the app fails to give a back button, then proceeds to mark the index as your "furthest read" point. This feature has failed on my a number of times, and there is no way to reset the "furthest read" point. From then on, it becomes very tedious to page through a book and find where I left off each time I switch devices.
Cons for all users: 2. Unlike my iPhone's Kindle app, the Motorola Xoom app does not show which page you're on. Instead, it only reports how far you are into a book as a percentage. Cons for non-fiction readers who study to learn: 3. Cannot name bookmarks. A folder system just like that used for web browser bookmarks would be great --but one collection per book; not a global multi-book collection. Of course, ability to re-organize --versus being stuck with the initial organization-- would be important as well.
Unable to archive free books. The iPhone has an Archive option, whereas the Android app does not; instead, it provides a Delete option. Archiving on the iPhone puts any book whether it was free or not into the Archive. In the Android version, choosing to Delete a book whether it was free or not results in a "Archiving book" message being shown briefly. Afterwards, if the book was a paid book, it will show up in the Archive; if it was a free book, it will disappear altogether. I spent hours downloading lots of classics last night books by Plato, Aristotle, the founding fathers, Thoreau, etc. Due to the new restrictions of the Google Play Store, if you install Kindle from there you can no longer purchase books or other content directly through the app. However if you uninstall the Kindle app, then install it from this "Amazon App Store" it will be fully functional! Great job Amazon on making it trivial for bypassing that restriction! See all reviews.
Top reviews from other countries. Translate all reviews to English.
Translate review to English. Annoyed at the politics! The Kindle app for Android is really good and easy to use. It gives you access to you books and has good features. I have only given 3 stars for the review because of the politics that has now stopped me from ordering a book through my Kindle for Android app. This has significantly reduced my use of the app and it has actually reduced my use of Kindle altogether I've also got a Paperwhite. Having the seamless purchasing aspect removed has stopped me buying books that are on offer or have appealed to me through the recommendation section. It's a good reading app with a huge variety of books to read. The actual reading experience is smooth and easy to manage, with some nice changes you can make to your "page" color, font size and shape, and whatnot.
Plus, there is the handy bookmark option, which makes it easy to find pages. My personal favorite aspect is the ability to make notes and highlights to any sentences or words. Overall, the Kindle app is handy and easy to use. And free!

Top reviews from the United States. There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. Verified Purchase. Great app with one major problem. I have a Google Pixel 7 Pro and use it for reading all of my Kindle content. The orientation lock turns on all by itself several times a day. This only happens in the Kindle app. The orientation lock remains off in all other functions on the phone. I asked Amazon why this was happening and they said it was a Google problem and to "please contact the manufacturer of the mobile device regarding the issue". If it only happens in the Amazon developed Kindle for android App it would appear to be a software problem in the Amazon app.

I've sent tickets to support with absolutely no response. Google News 5. I have to say, when the Kindle app added dark mode, it was a game changer. While there are other competent e-reader applications, like Mantano and Aldiko Book Reader, Kindle has the most complete set of tools to adjust for each unique reader.
